Raksha
Bhatt – A Photo Pictorialist
Master of Arts being one of her qualifications and also being
entitled with many other academic qualifications, this artist of
our city has been blessed with other abilities and more
importantly she seems to be enjoying the position of being an
Ambassador of our rich cultural heritage. Knowingly or
un-knowingly she has been involved in decimation of these images
of the rural and cultural side of Gujarat & India overall to
the world at large.

Call it
hobby, passion or Interest, she has participated in various
exhibitions around India. List of awards and other
recognitions just makes her image a little taller
than you would otherwise imagine a female photographer,
which in
itself is a rarity. Humanity Photo Award, UNESCO being just one of
them.
She has worked at various rural, wildlife & places of
historic importance. Sun Temple, Modhera – Gujarat,
Khajuraho- The World Heritage Site ( MP ), Baijnath Shiva
Temple – Uttaranchal. She has also been involved in
capturing some of the most intriguing Festivals of India,
Pushakar – Rajasthan, Dharang Fair ( Kutch ) Jambughoda –
Chhota Udaypur. Her interest is clearly visible in her work
on rural and village life of Kutch / Bhuj.

Surprises would still keep coming as you would find
out that she has also covered Gir National Park,
Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary – Rajasthan & many other
places of importance from the perspective of Wild Life
& Forests. Which we later learned were her first
interest when she started with photography.
If you
are aspiring to become a photographer, her advice is to Travel
extensively and experience the culture, the way of life of the
rural India & see the rich heritage invested into archeology by
our ancestors. Also if you are a female, make the most out of the
freedom your family gives you to become something and make a
carrier.
Her last exhibit was held on 19th August 2003 – Fairs
& Festivals of Gujarat. And if you would like to
see her work, she has planned an exhibit on World Heritage Week -
Ahmedabad from 19th - 24th Nov 2003. Email her for more info:

Some
people say 'A picture is worth a thousand words', maybe. But
an image of rural / cultural heritage to an Indian would say more
than just a thousand words. In fact it would inspire a sense of
belonging and inherit a tradition centuries old.
