Details of Profession:
Prosthetics & Orthotics is an interesting and most
essential profession of the Medical field where the
development has no horizon. Basically speaking
Orthotics is related to the orthopedic appliance which
is provided to the patients for the correction,
support or aligning any of the body part whereas
Prosthesis is the appliance which is a substitute for
the lost part of the body. This profession requires a
simple work shop with minimum machinery and the
supporting staff just require few months training to
get qualified in this field for fabricating artificial
aids & appliances. Mostly the techniques developed are
fast and cost effective. Entire rehabilitation
requires just simple diagnosis, prescribing suitable
appliance, taking measurement, Fabrication & fitting
of the same. The most useful part is the mass
rehabilitation within minimum time. This can be seen
in the camp activities where 100 to 150 patients are
fitted with artificial limbs within four to five days
time.
Their motivation is to be useful to the society.
